THE 'WHY' BEHIND THE BLOG

l spent a very long season pursuing military medicine for which I am extremely grateful but it left me very creatively dry for many years.  2022 finds me ready to rediscover my first love of writing rich with the textures of grief, loss, parenting, marriage, a Christian worldview, and the many challenges of being a female physician.  Writing is the only way I have ever been able to make sense of this insane world and the vehicle by which I have been able to find my place in it.  I hope my ramblings, rantings, and musings bring you a little comfort and sanity wherever you happen to find yourself amidst the fray.

BACKGROUND & FAMILY

I was born in the ghettos of Kingston, Jamaica in the 1980s.  I immigrated to America when I was five years old and was raised in south Jersey.  I graduated high school in 2001 (Go Chiefs!) and completed undergrad from 2001-2005.  My undergrad degree is in Biology with a minor in Psychology.  From there, I attended medical school in Virginia from 2007-2011 under the Army HPSP scholarship program.  I completed internship in Augusta, GA followed by a year long GMO tour near Savannah, GA.  My Internal Medicine residency was completed at a military Tri-service hospital from 2013-2015.  My final duty station was Ft Eustis as a staff internist at an outpatient clinic.  I completed military service in Dec 2018 and took a job as a SNFist in the Scranton, PA area.  I had a few more gigs after that and then relocated to NC in Jan 2021.  I currently work as a part-time hospitalist with some additional part-time work on the side. This feels like home and we are busy planting roots.

I have been married since 2008 to Immanuel who has an IT job, lots of ministry serving under his belt, and an abundance of natural instrumental music talent which he constantly downplays.  Our kids are Ellie and Ezra, born in 2017 and 2020, respectively.  You wont see many photos of my family or many personal details on the site because I am very protective of their privacy being that they never asked to be exposed and scrutinized.  We are thankful for each other and the privilege of 'doing life' together.
